Additionally, Madison County has many active gas wells and additional natural gas exploration. Southern Madison County also sits on the edge of the Marcellus Shale formation, which is anticipated to be a major player in natural gas development in the years to come. The northern half of the County has seen much interest lately, with the expectation that the Utica Shale formation will eventually get tapped as a source of new natural gas.
